Someone on my friends list posted a live video of a Pride performance over the weekend and I want more clarity on the situation. A transgender person (I assume they are transgender, since they were dressed in the colors of the Trans flag) publicly burned the two Gay Pride flags pictured below, then stomped on them as they burned. At first I felt this act of protest was abhorrent (I still do, actually) but I want to learn more about why this person felt the need to go through such extreme measures to make such a bold statement. I will also note that I was very shocked to see that the people in the audience (it was an outside performance in daylight) seemed to be cheering. I didnt hear anyone express any displeasure with the spectacle. Can someone please tell me what I watched, and explain to me why the burning Pride flags during a Pride event would be met with such positive response? I'm very confused.

There is no reason to burn the original flag because it was designed to include everyone. It is very sad to see that after fighting for so long to become equal that there is now a move to divide our community. I frankly am saddened and angry about this. So many people even lost their lives over the years. The people who took a stand at Stonewall had a lot of transgender there fighting the police. So why are we fighting between ourselves. I give up. I feel that all those years of my friends and our community fighting for our rights was a waste of time.
